Internet Regulations Essays - Television Technology, Video Formats

Internet Regulations What is a V-chip This term has become a buzz word for any discussion evolving telecommunications regulation and television ratings, but not too many reports define the new technology in its fullest form. A basic definition of the V-chip; is a microprocessor that can decipher information sent in the vertical blanking of the NTSC signal, purposefully for the control of violent or controversial subject matter. Yet, the span of the new chip is much greater than any working definition can encompass. A discussion of the V-chip must include a consideration of the technical and ethical issues, in addition to examining the constitutionally of any law that might concern standards set by the US government. Yet in the space provided for this essay, the focus will be the technical aspects and costs of the new chip. It is impossible to generally assume that the V-chip will solve the violence problem of broadcast television or that adding this little device to every set will be a first amendment infringement. We can, however, find clues through examining the cold facts of broadcast television and the impact of a mandatory regulation on that free broadcast. Utilizing the EIA's Recommended Practice for Line 21 Data Service(EIA-608) specification, these chips decode EDS (Extended Data Services)program ratings, compare these ratings to viewer standards, and can be programmed to take a variety of actions, including complete blanking of programs. Is one definition of the V-chip from Al Marquis of Zilog Technology. The FCC or Capitol Hill has not set any standards for V-chip technology; this has allowed many different companies to construct chips that are similar yet not exact or possibly not compatible. Each chip has advantages and disadvantages for the rating's system, soon to be developed. For example, some units use onscreen programming such as VCR's and the Zilog product do, while others are considering set top options. Also, different companies are using different methods of parental control over the chip. Another problem that these new devices may incur when included in every television is a space. The NTSC signal includes extra information space known as the subcarrier and Vertical blanking interval. As explained in the quotation from Mr. Marquis, the V-chips will use a certain section of this space to send simple rating numbers and points that will be compared to the personality settings in the chip. Many new technologies are being developed for smart-TV or data broadcast on this part of the NTSC signal. Basically the V-chip will severely limit the bandwidth for high performance transmission of data on the NTSC signal. There is also to be cost to this new technology, which will be passed to consumers. Estimates are that each chip will cost six dollars wholesale and must be designed into the television's logic. The V-chip could easily push the price of televisions up by twenty five or more dollars during the first years of production. The much simpler solution of set top boxes allows control for those who need it and allow those consumers who don't to save money and use new data technology. Another cost will most definitely be levied to television advertisers for the upgrade of the transmitting equipment. Weather the V-chip encoding signal is added upstream of the transmitter or directly into uplink units and other equipment intended for broadcast; this cost will have to compensated for in advertising sales and prices. The V-chip regulation may also require another staff employee at most stations to effectively rate locally aired programs and events. All three of these questions have been addressed in minute detail. Most debate has focused upon the new rating system and its implementation. Though equally important, this doesn't deal with the ground floor concerns for the television producing and broadcasting industries. Now as members of the industry we must hold our breath until either the fed knocks the wind from free broadcast with mandatory ratings' devices, or allows the natural regulation to continue. Profile of Joycelyn Harrison, NASA Engineer Joycelyn Harrison is a NASA engineer at the Langley Research Center researching piezoelectric polymer film and developing customized variations of piezoelectric materials (EAP). Materials that will link electric voltage to motion, according to NASA, If you contort a piezoelectric material a voltage is generated. Conversely, if you apply a voltage, the material will contort. Materials that will usher in a future of machines with morthing parts, remote self-repairing abilities, and synthetic muscles in robotics. Concerning her research Joycelyn Harrison has stated, Were working on shaping reflectors, solar sails and satellites. Sometimes you need to be able to change a satellites position or get a wrinkle off of its surface to produce a better image. Joycelyn Harrison was born in 1964, and has bachelors, masters and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Joycelyn Harrison has received the: Technology All-Star Award from the National Women of Color Technology AwardsNASAs Exceptional Achievement Medal (2000}NASAa Outstanding Leadership Medal {2006} for outstanding contributions and leadership skills demonstrated while leading the Advanced Materials and Processing Branch Joycelyn Harrison has been granted a long list of patents for her inventing and received the 1996 RD 100 Award presented by RD magazine for her role in developing THUNDER technology along with fellow Langley researchers, Richard Hellbaum, Robert Bryant, Robert Fox, Antony Jalink, and Wayne Rohrbach. THUNDER THUNDER, stands for for Thin-Layer Composite-Unimorph Piezoelectric Driver and Sensor, THUNDERs applications include electronics, optics, jitter (irregular motion) suppression, noise cancellation, pumps, valves and a variety of other fields. Its low-voltage characteristic allow it to be used for the first time in internal biomedical applications like heart pumps. The Langley researchers, a multi-disciplinary materials integration team, succeeded in developing and demonstrating a piezoelectric material that was superior to previous commercially available piezoelectric materials in several significant ways: being tougher, more durable, allows lower voltage operation, has greater mechanical load capacity, can be easily produced at a relatively low cost and lends itself well to mass production. The first THUNDER devices were fabricated in the lab by building up layers of commercially available ceramic wafers. The layers were bonded using a Langley-developed polymer adhesive. Piezoelectric ceramic materials can be ground to a powder, processed and blended with an adhesive before being pressed, molded or extruded into wafer form, and can be used for a variety of applications. Figure 1 given below reveals that William Hill’s revenue has increased gradually over the last 5 years. The company’s profit before tax has followed a same pattern as that of the company’s revenue during the same time period with an exception in the year 2013 where the profit dipped by nearly  £20 million from the previous year. This goes to show the consistency demonstrated by the company in terms of its financial performance. The management of William hill has done exceedingly well by shielding the company from any impacts of the 2007-08 financial crisis. This is precisely because of the fact that it was the period when majority of companies recorded huge loss. However, William Hill continued to exhibit a strong performance. It is believed that a lot of people resorted to bet their money to bookmakers in order to earn money in a short time during the time period between 2009 and 2013 and this is what helped William Hill to increase its revenue by a drastic margin. According to Key note (2014), the UK expenditure of household on games of chance increased more than 4% per year between 2009 and 2013 and it was recorded a highest growth in 2013 (8.3%). Launching Green Products in Kuwait Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Launching Green Products in Kuwait - Essay Example To discuss in-depth what green is, nevertheless, there are a number of issues that needs to be covered first so that there will be a proper understanding of what ‘green’ means and why it is necessary to ‘go green’. After an in-depth discussion on the most important issues surrounding the term ‘green’ and indeed what ‘green products’ are, the paper will look at how Kuwait as a nation can launch the products in the country. One of the topics worth mentioning when it comes to going green is pollution. Pollution refers to the introduction or hazardous compounds into the environment. During the industrial revolution, there was the development in the transport industry and manufacturing that saw the commercial use of fossil fuels. Initially, firewood was the most commonly used fuel. When the industries were incepted, it became a necessity to develop a kind of fuel that produced more heat per unit mass, the best choice was coal. The fuel became a favorite in industries and other sectors such as the transport sector that used the fuel to heat water that was supposed to produce steam. The steam was used for turning the wheels of a locomotive. In no time, the pollution levels hit a record high as industrialization revolution continued in more and more countries. Today, pollution is among the many things that have shaken the world. Factories are dumping waste in water endangering marine life and affecting impor tant sectors such as agriculture. Other than the water bodies, there has been the emission of poisonous gases into the atmosphere that, also, has affected a lot of lives today. When factories emit gases such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, and carbon dioxide into the environment, the gases lead to some of the most destructive phenomena such as acid rain which destroys plants and property. Other than this, the gases lead to the most famous effect of pollution, the

The Concept Of Childrens Day

The Concept Of Childrens Day Universally, Children s Day is celebrated on 20th November, every year. This date was chosen as a day to celebrate childhood. Prior to 1959 Children s Day was universally celebrated in the month of October. This was first celebrated in the year 1954, as decided by the UN General Assembly. Basically this day was instituted with the sole aim of promoting communal exchange and understanding among children, as well as to bring about beneficiary action to promote the welfare of children, all over the globe. The date 20th November, was chosen as it marks the anniversary of the day in 1959, when the Declaration of the Rights of the Child was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly adopted. In 1989 the Convention on the Rights of the Child was signed on the same date, which has been sanctioned by 191 states, ever since. However, while 20th November is universally celebrated as Children s Day, in India this day has been preponed to 14th November, the date the marks the birth anniversary of independent India s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. The reason why his birthday has been chosen for the celebration of children is because of his love and passion for children. Pandit Nehru is also regarded as the country s special child to have been the first Prime Minister, after her long struggle for independence. The day is marked with a lot of activities for children. But the fact remains that only a section of the country s children actually have an opportunity to celebrate their existence. Schools organize events and activities that their students thoroughly enjoy, but there is an entire populace of young ones that are left ignored on this special day the downtrodden street children. Instead of celebrating it with pomposity in schools and clubs and hotels, why not bring a difference into the lives of children who are unprivileged. While celebrating being a child, the fortunate ones should be reminded about their good fortune to have all that they are endowed with, while there are others who can barely feed or clothe themselves. Thus, while this day was globally instituted to provide children with basic Rights, maybe one can make a difference to a child s life by doing something special. Parties and celebrations happen all the time, but how about taking the fortunate children to homes that shelter street children and have them befriend those kids, donating clothes, toys, stationery, books, etc. Another way of celebrating this day differently would be to have your children, whether as teacher or parent, organize a party for some underprivileged children. In fact, if this is done in every neighborhood, imagine how many smiles there will be across the nation. Childhood is about innocence and playfulness. It is about joy and freedom. Maybe on this day you can make your own child sign up to sponsor the education of an unprivileged child, either through an NGO dedicated to educating and providing better living conditions for street children, or maybe you could do so for your employee s child. Celebrating Children s Day is about giving children the right to enjoy and grow into healthy and educated citizens of the country, and if you can teach your child the value of sharing with others what they are lucky to have, then not only your child will grow into a responsible human being, but also another child who otherwise could have ended up being a delinquent, had it not been for your thoughtfulness. As mentioned earlier, Childrens day in India is celebrated on Pandit Nehrujis birthday as a day of fun and frolic, a celebration of childhood, children and Nehrujis love for them. As a tribute to his love for children, Nehrujis birthday is celebrated all over India as CHILDRENS DAY Children are the future citizens of the country. The future of the country depends upon the present children. If the children do not develop in a proper way, the countrys future will be ruined. This was rightly realized by our late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. So, he advised the people to stop observing his birthday on the 14th November and to observe this day as the childrens Day. Since 1956 the 14th November is every year, observed in India as the Childrens Day. Advantages: On the Childrens day the neglecting people will get an opportunity to think of the future of their children. The whole society will think of its duty and responsibility towards the children. They will think of what have been done for the children in the year past and what should be done for them in the year coming. Because children are the future citizens of the country and the future of the country depends upon the present children. People will know that every individual in our society has a sacred duty towards the children. How this day is observed: Every year on the 14th November the Childrens Day is observed everywhere in our country. People gather in meetings to discuss over the future of the children. They discuss over how to build children as the ideal citizens. They discuss about how to make the child healthy physically, mentally and morally. Because if the students be not properly built, the future of the country will be in ruin. So, they take pledge not to neglect their children. The Childrens Day makes them realize that child is the father of man. On the Childrens Day, the children are given new garments and rich food. They are given picture books. Conclusion: Children are the future of our country. They are the future of our nation. So, every individual should realize the importance of the Childrens Day. Childrens day is celebrated in India on 14th november every year with a great celebrity. It is celebrated on the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehruji who loved and was loved by children. He was called as Chacha ji by children However, while 20th November is universally celebrated as Children s Day, in India this day has been preponed to 14th November, the date the marks the birth anniversary of independent India s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Childrens Day is an event celebrated on various days in many places around the world. International Childrens Day is celebrated on June 1 and Universal Childrens Day is on November 20.[1]Other countries celebrate a local childrens day on other dates. The reason why his birthday has been chosen for the celebration of children is because of his love and passion for children. Pandit Nehru is also regarded as the country s special child to have been the first Prime Minister, after his long struggle for independence. As mentioned earlier, Childrens day in India is celebrated on Pandit Nehrujis birthday as a day of fun and frolic, a celebration of childhood, children and Nehrujis love for them. As a tribute to his love for children, Nehrujis birthday is celebrated all over India as CHILDRENS DAY His great love for roses as well as children is a well-known fact. In fact he often compared the two, saying that children were like the buds in a garden. They should be carefully and lovingly nurtured, as they were the future of the nation and the citizens of tomorrow. He felt that children are the real strength of a country and the very foundation of society. Most importantly he did not discriminate between the sexes and believed in giving equal opportunities to girls and boys. In fact his own little girl grew up to be the third Prime Minister of India. Quite naturally, he was the beloved of all the children who gave him the endearing name of Chacha Nehru. As a tribute to this great man and his genuine love for children, his birthday is celebrated all over India as UNIVERSAL CHILDRENS DAY. A day of fun and fanfare. It is not only a national holiday, but is celebrated with singing, dancing and storytelling in schools and colleges as well as on radio and television. Special functions are held to honour children all over the country. The significance of Childrens Day But amidst all this pomp and glory, we should not lose sight of Chacha Nehrus real message. That is providing our children with a safe and loving environment in which to grow as well as giving them ample and equal opportunities through which they can take great strides and contribute to the progress of the nation. This day serves as a reminder to each and every one of us, to renew our commitment to the welfare of children and teach them to live by their Chacha Nehrus standards and example.

Choosing a Secondary Storage Essay

Introduction Nowadays, data is the lifeblood for today’s digital organization. The integrity, availability and the protection of the date are vital to a business productivity and successfulness, therefore storage solutions are still the priority in IT budgets. G&J Consultation Sdn Bhd currently is facing a storage problem. Their storage system performance’s bottlenecks having a serious impact on their business productivity. The sluggish primary storage performance and maintenance issue were slowing down the company’s response to customer request which affecting the overall business productivity. Besides, their backup solution was becoming difficult to effectively protect date within ever shrinking back up window. Thus G&J Consultation Sdn Bhd now needed to search for a secondary storage which can solve all the problems. They require a storage that can optimize storage response time, ensure disaster recovery, implement a highly solution and the most important is to ensure a better access to customer date and protect more than 100TB of data without adding heavy cost and complex management. The era of data and information clearly shows that there is a rising demand for more storage. There are a numbers of options available in the market. The most prevalent would be direct-attached storage (DAS), network-attached storage (NAS) and storage area network (SAN). There is no one is the best for everyone. It is important to focus on the specific needs and the business goals of the organization. Therefore, there are several factors to consider which include capacity, performance, reliability, data protection and budget concerns. We will look into that in more detail later. Many people will argue that SAN are more powerful that NAS, but for G&J Consultation Sdn Bhd, I suggest that the Network Attached Storage (NAS) would be the most suitable storage solution to solve their storage problems. The factors that affecting of choose a secondary storage will be discussed in the next section. NAS is a data storage systems with a specialized hardware and software attached to a network. NAS products is an information data storage server, they have converged to serve all in one servers for date based applications. A NAS is to provide storage and access to data. Picture 1.1 show the Network-attached storage. 2.0 Factors affecting of choosing a secondary storage A storage solution can be defined as a hardware whose main function is to store and sharing data or information. There are many types of storage with many different functions. The storage for business usually is in the form of servers. To choose a right storage for your business, there are several factors that need to be considering when choosing storage which include reliability, capacity and scalability, the budget concern. Capacity The first factor that need to taken into consideration when choosing storage is the capacity of the storage. It is very important that we should very clear that what is the size and scope of the data that you want to store and what capacity is needed to store it? The firm should choose the storage which suitable for the organization or business purpose and functions. The firm should also consider the types of data to store and the frequency of access the data when choosing a storage. NAS systems can provide many terabytes of storage in high density. G&J Consultation Sdn Bhd is a consulting firm which provides services in finance and business strategy to leading law firms and government agencies. They have a lot of date that need to store and share with customer which some of it might sensitive. Therefore it is suggested that they should choose a file-level storage. A NAS device is a single storage unit best suited for file-level storage connected directly to network. NAS often configures especially for file- sharing. Performance & Speed Different storage will have different return rate of speeds for data. If the date store is monthly use, means that you no need the fastest storage; if the date store will be use very frequently, is better to choose the fast performance storage. Knowing this can help you save in cost. A business normally will look for a better file access speed. G&J Consultation might need a fast performance storage since they are providing consultant services to customers which the date stored might be use frequently and need to response to customers very quickly. Transfer speed over the network is the primary indicator of a NAS because it uses file-level protocol when uploading or downloading large files. NAS can provide performance benefits. For example, NAS can take over the work of serving the email data, freeing resources on the email server for email-specific processes. Scalability Scalability is important in terms of both computing power and storage capacity. The performance and capacity should scale independently of one another. Scalability is important because the ability of the storage would need to be expanded in future in order to cope with increased use. NAS is a suitable storage which suggested for G&J Consultation Sdn Bhd because it is easy to set up and easy to use, even a non IT based staff can manage the NAS. Reliability Reliability of storage also is one of the factors which is very important and need to be concerned. Reliability is important because the loss of data and downtime can lead to loss in revenue and threaten the survival of the business. In today’s world, most of the people demand a highly reliability, shared storage device that is accessible to multiple network devices. NAS is the newer version of storage after DAS (data-attached storage), it use of highest-performing drives with premium components that been qualified to extreme premium environment. NAS is suitable for G&J Consultation Sdn Bhd since it produce the most reliable and highest-performance data storage solution. NAS is same reliable with normal server. From the storage functional system, concepts are equally. They both can act as server. Even lower end NAS systems have the high reliability features such as RAID and hot swappable drives and components. Cost or budget concern Usually is the main concern of an organization to purchase a certain products or services. Cost in here not only means the equipment cost, but management and maintenance cost as well. Management and maintenance cost at here meaning that the cost to maintain the storage, the cost to hire the IT consultant to give training on the ways to use the storage and so on. G&J Consultation Sdn Bhd is having a storage problem and they want to buy a suitable storage which can help them solve the problem they are facing currently without adding heavy cost for their business. Here, it is suggested to the firm that network-attached storage (NAS) would be a suitable storage solution which is less expensive if compare to others. The management and maintenance cost is lower also because NAS is easy to set up and easy to use. Security The firms have a lot of date and some of the data might be sensitive which relate to legal need to be store and share between customers, thus data protection can be one of the factors that need to be taking into consideration also. NAS provides data protection benefits in data protection plan and provide redundant storage for sensitive data. Every NAS appliance includes user security to allow or restrict file access based on username and passwords. Management Management here means the administrator who in charge of the storage solution. He need to be aware of the challenges that might be arise for the solution and consider what are the monitoring tools are available to monitor performance and warn for the possible failures. The storage should not be too complex to manage in order to save the cost of management and maintenance. 3.0 Advantages of seeking a higher performing storage A secondary storage device for computers are not only for storing back up files, they also allow computers users to expand their ability to transfer a large amounts of data from one computer to another. For G&J Consultation Sdn Bhd, as I mention earlier, the suggested storage that most suitable if the Network Attached Storage (NAS). There are several advantages of seeking a higher performing storage which suggested here. Mass Storage The capacity of the secondary storage is very high that allow us to store a large amount of data. We can store the data into the secondary storage in the form of gigabyte and terabytes. In that case, we can back up the all data easily and need not worry for losing data. Usually an organization will have plenty of data that need to be stored to support the business operations. For this, the primary storage would not be able to do it. NAS provide an efficient of sharing a large individual files among individual users. NAS can store and manage the data up to terabytes level. Besides, NAS allowed us to add more storage without shutting down the network. Reliability & Security It is considered safe that storing data into the secondary storage. The data can be store in the secondary storage which is the NAS in permanent form. Therefore the firm no needs to worry of loss of data or lack of data even after many years later. NAS provide data protection benefits so that it is safe to store the sensitive data. This is one of the advantages by choosing NAS because G&J Consultation Sdn Bhd is handle highly sensitive data. The data stored on live database server will be stored to NAS in the same time so that the data will exist even if the database server faced physical failure. Performance The computer could have a better performance with adding a secondary storage. This can help users to increase the speed of storing data, access data or transferring data which indirectly increase the productivity of the firm. With a secondary storage, the computer of the organization can fully operate effectively. Performance of serving files can be increase by a NAS because NAS included file-system storage. NAS is a system used for storing files in a central location, accessible through a network, so that other computer systems can store and retrieve the data files. Comfort The date store in the secondary storage can be accessed easily and immediately. The data can share with others such as customers very easily and convenient. This can increase the productivity of the organization and contribute to gain profit for the organization. NAS is a server which has the dual function of application serving and files sharing and provides a lot of flexibility in data access by virtue of being independently. The utility rate of NAS is high because the storage is shared across multiple servers. Multiple NAS systems or devices can be manage by a central and then it can conserving the time and resources, Economic The cost of a secondary storage is cheaper than adding the memory of the computer. For G&J Consultation Sdn Bhd, NAS is suggested to them as their secondary storage rather than a SAN. SAN requires the purchase of a Fibre Channel which is very expensive; NAS requires a standard Ethernet NIC which is much cheaper. This indirectly reduces the cost for storage devices. Furthermore, SAN is very hard to understand, it will cause the management and the maintenance cost increase; however NAS is easy to understand and easy to maintain, indirectly reduces the cost of management and maintenance for the firm. NAS is a simple and cost-effective way to achieve fast data access for multiple clients at the file level. 4.0 Disadvantages of seeking a higher performing storage There is nothing perfect in this world; there is no any storage which is the best. A secondary storage has several advantages and of course has several of disadvantages. Over Whelmed NAS can be used by many computers on a network. When everyone is trying to access the device at the same time, it might lead to overwhelmed. This could happen because of the limitation of network bandwidth, and the processing power within the device. When there is a large amount of users simultaneously access data, it will create the bottlenecks on the local area network and server. Besides, NAS device could become a single point of failure. To solve this issue, those important files across multiple units should be distribute, schedule and run regular remote backup routines. Financial Budget concern Getting a higher performance of storage, in other words that is one of the expenses cost for the Organization. No matter how valuable is the storage, it still will affect the financial budgeting for the organization for short term. The organization needs to allocate fund for the storage equipment cost, and also for the maintenance and management cost of the storage. This is just a very short term disadvantages because advantages of the secondary storage will contributes profits to the organization and then can cover the cost of getting the storage. Time consuming The staffs of the organization might need times to understand and make use of the secondary storage. The administrator would first study and understand in detail for the storage then he might need to give training to the staffs in order for them to know how to operate and maximize the usage of the storage. This is important because if the secondary storage not fully utilize by the organization would be wastage for the organization. However this might take some times to completely educate everyone in the organization to fully utilize the storage and it is hard to ensure whether the storage has been fully utilized. There will be a wastage and loss of money for the organization if the users of the organization not able to use the storage. That is no point of spending an amount of money for the organization to buying a powerful product but no one can fully utilize it. Backup challenge We can back up the data by NAS but because NAS is file-level storage, which means transferring data and storing data is by file-level. If users have millions of small files, it could be a problem to back up the data because NAS will store the data by file name. NAS cannot do image-level backup and cannot serve raw device. Besides, NAS is difficult to backup the data to tape. Large block of data A NAS is not able to move a large block of data which is important for bandwidth-intensive applications such as imaging, database or transaction processing. NAS does not offer fast data transfer while reducing input/output latency or server workloads. NAS also not provide high volume transaction processing especially the companies that conduct business on the web. Same with the backup issues, if the user has millions of small file that want to store or share to another, NAS is not an option to do that. The only way to solve this without adding budget to seeking for the other storage is adding the capacity of the NAS, since the scalability of NAS is high but of course it has its limit. 5.0 Conclusion Digital assets will only continue to growth rapidly in the future. It is important to choose the right storage and to implement technologies that based on the industry standard which can minimize the interoperability concerns and provides long term investment protection for the organization.

Capture Your Stories - Guest Post by Gary Ryan

Capture Your Stories - Guest Post by Gary Ryan Capture Your Stories Guest Post by Gary Ryan, edited by Brenda Bernstein, The Essay Expert In last week’s article by Gary Ryan, How Students Can Leverage Part Time and Volunteer Work, he explained what employability skills are and why they are important for your future. This week he asks an important question: How do you capture your experiences in a useful way? Your stories are important in the context of both creating your resume (The Essay Expert’s specialty!) and preparing for an interview. Are you the right fit? Once you are in front of your prospective employers, your goal is to communicate that you are the right fit for their organization. The interview is largely about testing your personality. The interviewers already know that you have the right technical skills or a demonstrated ability to learn them. What they don’t know is whether or not you will fit in their company culture. This is where your stories about your employability skills kick in. 95% of interview questions are behaviorally based. This means that you will be asked questions that require you to provide an example about how you have demonstrated your employability skills in the past. If you haven’t prepared your answers, you will likely fumble your way through your interview. Tell us about a time†¦ As an example, imagine being asked, â€Å"Please tell us about a time when you had to work with a difficult person.† This question is meant to elicit how well you will interact with your fellow employees. Will you be a good team member to have around the office? If you have prepared stories about teamwork, communication, leadership and problem solving, you will quickly be able to modify one of your existing stories to provide a succinct and coherent answer to this question. If you haven’t prepared your stories, your face could turn white, the blood draining from your brain: â€Å"I’m not sure. I can’t think of one right now. I know that I have worked with difficult people before but I can’t think of one right now. Sorry.† It is not unusual for these sorts of responses to be heard in an interview. How do you think the interviewers will judge your organizational â€Å"fit† with this kind of response? A structure to rely on Now here’s the good news: Interviewers have formulas that they listen for with regard to how your answers are structured. If you know the formula, you can prepare so you don’t get caught off guard. One common formula is the CAR (Challenge / Action / Result) method. When answering a question such as the one above about working with a difficult person, you might choose a CAR story that you had prepared. Let’s break down the components of a CAR story so you can create some of your own: ‘C’ is for Challenge or Circumstance. What situation sets the scene for your story? What was the context? Who were the players? What goal were you (as a team or individually) trying to achieve? What roadblocks stood in the way? Although the first place to look for CAR stories is in your work experience, some of your best examples might come from family, recreational, or other extracurricular activities. This is especially true if you are a new graduate, but might be relevant even if you are a seasoned professional. If you planned a wedding, for instance, you learned skills that will apply in any paid position where you might be asked to organize a project or event. And if you get along well with your family, that’s a great sign that you will be a great person to have in the workplace! ‘A’ is for Actions. This is where you differentiate yourself. What did you do that made a difference? Be specific and include the most pertinent actions that you undertook. In the example above, you may have recognized that part of the reason for the â€Å"difficult† person’s behavior was that you hadn’t been clear in your communication. So you may have stopped talking and just listened. Perhaps you discovered that they had misunderstood what you said- enabling you to communicate your message in a way they could comprehend. ‘R’ is for Results. This is the â€Å"So what?† part of your story. The results you have produced are some of the most important employability skills you can demonstrate. In the above example, your effective use of communication through improved listening may have resulted in a clearer understanding for the entire team of what it was trying to achieve- which in turn created a high level of focus and ultimately a successful project. You might even add that a big lesson from this experience was that through effective communication, you realized that the â€Å"difficult† person in question wasn’t that difficult after all. By sharing your results, you emphasize the positive impact you can have on an organization. Reap the benefits of preparation Preparing your CAR and employability skills stories, complete with results and lessons learned, provides you with flexibility when answering questions. You will be able to simply listen to the question and then select the most appropriate story to answer it. Your answers will be well-thought-out and evidence-based, and will make your interviewers engaged and favorable toward your application. The power of telling your stories through a structure such as CAR is that it enables you to shine and reveal your personality, in addition to demonstrating how well you prepare for important meetings (yes, an interview is a meeting!). Your interviewers are then in a position to objectively judge how you would fit in the organization. Piss and Vinegar

Piss and Vinegar Culture and Tradition Journal has reached a milestone by having had twenty-five volumes so far. The twenty-fifth volume titled â€Å"Ethnologies† is already out. The previous volume â€Å"Canadian Folklore† elicited quite a debate owing to its title.Advertising We will write a custom article sample on â€Å"Piss and Vinegar†- An Editorial History of a Graduate Student Folklore Journal specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The magazine covers several issues that are important to students. The magazine was first published in 1976 using funds that were initially meant for a college tour. With the magazine being bilingual, it was agreed that it would also have two titles. Early editions of the magazine did not include introduction and editorial pages. Moreover, in the initial issue of the magazine the editors were quick to pronounce their impartiality. Eventually when the journal’s terms of reference were reviewed, the editorial page came into being. As the editors kept changing, so did the views of the editorial body. For instance, after seven years of publication there were claims that the previous editorial team was too conservative. The eighth volume of the journal mainly covered issues of Canadian folklore. This issue was meant to precede the publication of a book on the same subject. Among the contents of this issue were short biographies of those who may be considered the founders of Canadian folklore. In the tenth volume, the message was mainly an appreciation for the milestone. All the stakeholders were thanked immensely for their contributions. It was also in this article that French and English articles were published alternatively. Laval and memorial themes were collaborated in the twelfth volume of publication. The issue was in itself a success due to the reactions it elicited. The same trend was continued in volume thirteen. However, most contributions by Laval were from a single course. During the 1980s, the editorial teams had formed a pattern of harmonizing their issues. This was in spite of the fact that there were ongoing undercurrents. The strife was mostly because of the divergent views of Laval and Memorial camps.Advertising Looking for article on communications media? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Publication of the fourteenth volume coincided with various global events including the Olympics. This was also the first issue with notable political undertones. In the subsequent volumes, the articles in the magazine started having introductory synopses. Those introductory remarks served as a statement in support of folklore. By the seventeenth issue, the Laval editorial team had relinquished its editorial duties. This left all the editorial responsibilities to the Memorial team. Soon after, the editorial pages were again out of circulation. None of the issues that followed made any i mpact that can be considered out of the ordinary. However, during publication of the nineteenth volume a journal contributor was awarded. The current issue still fables with tensions between conservative and dynamic camps. Culture and Tradition journal has been more successful than other similar student publications. For instance, Folklore Forum Journal has failed to carry on with the momentum it had at its inception. The biggest challenge faced by the aforementioned publication is mostly lack of contributors. Currently, there are reports that Folklore Forum has ceased production. This leaves Culture and Tradition as the only student folklore journal in North America. In anticipation of the twenty-fifth anniversary of Culture and Tradition, magazine students have been requested to make their article submissions. This message urges the contributors to keep going even after a quarter century of success stories. In conclusion, the journal has grown to international standards due to the efforts of all those involved.

Lactobacillus Bulgaricus vs E.Coli Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Lactobacillus Bulgaricus vs E.Coli - Essay Example Effect of a microorganism or virulence of a bacterium may be caused by an organism being physically present in the host where it releases toxins to the host directly or its preformed toxins get into another organism’s body system through various routes such ingestion, skin etc. The virulence of microorganisms varies across genus as well as species. In this paper, I am going to describe two bacteria, explain their ecological niche, and finally compare them. Selection of bacteria After a thorough evaluation of bacteria I have rested on Escherichia coli and Lactobacillus bulgaricus. The reason for selecting the two organisms is that they share a common feature of exhibiting a rectangular shape but their behaviors are totally different. Their similarities and differences are expounded below. Lactobacillus bulgaricus Lactobacillus bulgaricus’ is a non pathogenic organism. It occurs in its natural environment and its ecological niche is where there is its requirements for gro wth are provided especially in dairy products that contain lactose. It is chemoorganotrophic meaning that it must obtain energy and carbon from organic compounds. It is a rod shaped and the rods join end to end to form a filamentous structure that are extensively long. This bacterium is a gram positive facultative anaerobe. Based on this fact, Lactobacillus bulgaricus can be homofermenative or heterofermentative. When it comes to motion, the bacterium is non motile because it does not possess locomotion. When conditions become unfavorable this particular bacterium does not form a spore. According to Guchte (2006) its size based on its shape ranges between 0.5-0.8 x 2.0-9.0mm. For this bacterium to grow it requires a medium whose pH ranges between 4.6 -5.4 (Guchte, 2006). The fact that it can only hydrolyse lactose sugar makes it quite important to food industry because of its by-products. When it is fed with lactose, the bacterium converts this sugar to lactic acid. This fact has be en exploited as a principle in yoghurt production where lactose in milk in converted to lactic acid and it is used as a preservative as well as well as giving the yoghurt an awesome a tart flavor. The bacterium reproduces asexually through conjugation. Conjugation is a process where RNA and DNA are transferred from one bacterium to another (PBWorks, 2008). Lactobacillus bulgaricus can also be found in human intestines. Escherichia coli This bacterium occurs in the natural environment particularly fecal contaminated one but it carves its niche in the lower part of intestines of organisms that are warm blooded because there is a well balanced ecosystem. In the intestines there are specific nutrients that are provided and conditions are favorable for its growth and survival. Some strains of this bacterium especially O111, O145, O104:H21, O157:H7, O121, O104:H4, O26, and O103 are very pathogenic (Nicole et al., 2001). About 0.1% of the bacteria that colonize mammalian gut belong to the E. coli specie (Nicole et al., 2001). The bacterium is a gram negative rod and it is a facultative anaerobe whose cell measures approximately 2.0 x 0.5Â µm (Nicole et al., 2001). When this bacterium is outside the host’s body, it is able to survive for some period of time which has made it to be used as indicator of

Curriculum Review Project Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Curriculum Review Project - Assignment Example The curriculum map acts as a tool for enhancement of communication within the parents and communities in connection to the curriculum and everything that is covered by the teacher. This possible as the curriculum map provides forums where parents and teachers can meet and discuss the teaching progress. Education experts have acknowledged that this process is yielding better results since parents and the community feel they are part of the teaching strategy. When a teacher is choosing a lesson topic, he can utilize the curriculum map by gathering data on what the topic entails. The teacher then critically analyzes the information and then combines the group review after which the he decides on the areas that can be revised immediately (Hale, 2008). The changes and extensions in the curriculum map offers students with the appropriate channels for getting the contents. This helps in development of the teaching materials for equipping the students with the necessary skills. Diverse learning methods and abilities may also contribute to how learners demonstrate they have mastery of ideas. The curriculum map will incorporate diverse activities for different levels and learning methods. The goal to differentia technique is getting to identify how students can present their learning to meet the essential specific needs (Kallick, 2009). The critical role of the curriculum mapping is to design a curriculum that will that will consider the choices of young people on their learning so that they prepare for unknown future (Lyle, 2006). Curriculum mapping should identify gaps, misalignments and redundancies in the curriculum and instructional program. The aim for this is to support the work of the teachers and assist the learners. Curriculum planning has also helped in reducing bulk and crowding in the curriculum. The process of curriculum planning entails the recording of curriculum data that points out the centre skills and the content taught
